چکیده

We report on the results of an EIT phantom study using an experimental tank with agar conductivity inhomogeneities, used to verify the accuracy of both a boundary element method (BEM) forward model and a non-linear inverse solution based on the BEM model. We introduce the shunt electrode model into the BEM equations for greater accuracy and derive the associated Jacobian for the inverse problem. Results show good agreement between measured values and both forward-computed tank voltages and inverse-computed conductivities. Keywords—Electrical Impedance Tomography, EIT, Boundary Element Method, BEM, inverse problem, experimental verification

Solving inverse problems by connection of level set method, gradient technique and finite or boundary elements

The task of the image reconstruction in Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is highly ill-posed inverse problem. The level set method with the gradient technique is established model for our numerical problem. Interfaces between subdomains with constant conductivities are represented by the level set function. Moreover, only one function is needed to represent any numbers of phases. The itera...

A High-order Finite Element Method for Electrical Impedance Tomography

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a non-invasive imaging technique where a conductivity distribution in a domain is reconstructed from boundary voltage measurements. The voltage data are generated by injecting currents into the domain. This is an ill-conditioned non-linear inverse problem. Small measurement or forward modeling errors can lead to unbounded fluctuations in the reconstructi...

Study of the Boundary Element Method for the Direct Problem of Electrical Impedance Tomography

The main objective of this paper is to contribute to the development of a reconstruction method for the electrical impedance tomography (EIT) problem using the boundary element method (BEM). The idea is to adopt BEM to improve the performance of the solution of the direct problem. The EIT problem is generally formulated as an inverse problem and the approach to its solution consists in minimizi...

The Application of hybrid BEM/FEM methods to solve Electrical Impedance Tomography’s forward problem for the human head

The forward problem in Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) requires an accurate estimation of its solution. Although analytical solutions exist for a limited number of cases, there is no suitable analytical solution for the geometry of the human head. A commonly adopted method is the use of Finite Element Methods (FEM). However, the human head consists of layers, which include the scalp and C...

Forward Field Computation with OpenMEEG

To recover the sources giving rise to electro- and magnetoencephalography in individual measurements, realistic physiological modeling is required, and accurate numerical solutions must be computed. We present OpenMEEG, which solves the electromagnetic forward problem in the quasistatic regime, for head models with piecewise constant conductivity. The core of OpenMEEG consists of the symmetric ...
